Cybersecurity: A Critical Cornerstone of National Security

Cybersecurity: A Critical Cornerstone of National Security - Vikash Murtee, CEO, M Cyber Academy

In the present digital age where the internet has become an essential part of everybody's life, cybersecurity has emerged as a serious concern. Cybersecurity is not just an individual safety matter but a cornerstone of our nation's security.

Growing Cybercrimes: A Cause of Concern

This total reported cybercrimes stood at 3,377 in the year 2012. For the year 2020, the total counts stand at more than 50,000. A significant increase by all accounts in such threats. We believe that awareness and proactive measures can effectively address this growing issue.

Why Cybersecurity Matters

Today, more than 800 million Indians are online. Cybersecurity has emerged as the most potent weapon for securing personal and national interests. Data theft, cyber fraud, malware attacks, and crimes against children have multiplied manifold.

Evolving Threats from the Dark Web

Besides highlighting the new threats of dark net, cryptocurrencies, and drone technologies that are being used in the commission of heinous crimes, including drug-trafficking and terrorism by criminals,

Cybersecurity should not be a niche subject for experts alone. It should be integrated into school and college curricula to create widespread awareness.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has already taken commendable steps, such as launching a cybercrime reporting portal, which has received over 1.1 million reports of cybercrimes. We need to implement more technological solutions and increase individual vigilance to make cybersecurity accessible for all.

Conclusion

Robust cybersecurity will be the road to the future of India.

We need advanced technology along with increasing the sensitization process with respect to cyber threats if we really intend to build this fortress called "National Security."

In order to promote this, Cyber Academy shall produce experts that ensure India would reach a stature comparable to that of one of the safest countries around the world
